Northern Youths Ask Buhari, Atiku to Shelve Presidential Ambition- ThisDay
The Coalition of Northern Youths has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice-President Abubakar not to contest the 2019 presidential election.
In a communiqué issued at the end of their summit in Kaduna Monday, the group urged the two leaders to leave the stage for younger people between the ages of 18 and 60.
The communiqué, which was read by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, spokesman of the group, said they had previously advised Buhari to leave the stage for younger people.
“We had advised him (Buhari) to look for a younger person who has the integrity like him to run for the presidency. Anybody above 70 years of age should give way to the younger generation,” the group, which last year issued an ultimatum to Nigerians of South-east origin to leave the North, said…Read more
FG kicks off reconstruction of N20.8b Ikorodu-Sagamu road- Guardian
The Federal Government has kicked-off reconstruction of the 36-kilometre Ikorodu-Sagamu Road awarded to Messrs Arab Contractor O.A.O. Nigeria Limited at the cost of N20.845 billion.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), who performed the kick-off exercise yesterday, said the road would relieve the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway of traffic congestion and serve as an alternative route to the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, thereby improving the economic development of the country.
Fashola, stressing the importance of the road at the ceremony witnessed by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, House of Representatives member, representing Ikorodu Central, Mr. Jimi Benson and Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the project had no political undertone but for the general use of Nigerians…Read more
Obasanjo meets Afenifere leaders, says Nigeria needs to be rescued- Punch
A former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday paid a visit to the leaders of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, at the residence of the leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti in Akure, Ondo State.
The meeting, which lasted for almost 30 minutes, had the former President calling for the cooperation of the group to save Nigeria from collapsing.
Speaking during the visit, Obasanjo commended the Afenifere for being at the forefront of fighting for the interest of the Yoruba nation while he was working towards the interest of the country as a whole, noting that the two parties were working towards the same goals of fostering unity among the people of the country but on a different pedestal.
The former President recalled how he had visited the leadership of the group some 20 years ago, seeking the group’s support for his election but said he was rejected by the group…Read more
